Euripides (c. 484-406 BCE) was the third of the three Attic tragedians. He held no magistracies or office and lived in retirement. His first play, The Daughters of Pelias, is dated circa 455 BCE. Overall Euripides is credited with around ninety plays and works and is still widely read and studied today.
