Lui, Nakkiah (1991-)

Nakkiah Lui is a writer, playwright and actor and Gamillaroi and Torres Strait Islander woman. She is a co-writer and star of ABC's Black Comedy. She was playwright in residence at Belvoir Theatre from 2012–14. In 2012, Nakkiah was the first recipient of The Dreaming Award from The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Arts Board of the Australia Council. 

Nakkiah is also a young leader in the Australian Aboriginal community and has contributed to The Guardian and Junkee. Her six-part comedy series, Kiki & Kitty, premiered on ABC Comedy in December 2017. 

Nakkiah was the recipient of the Patrick White Playwrights Fellow for 2018. Her play Black is the New White is on the TASC Prescribed Text List for English Literature level 3 for 2020-2023.
