Julie Otsuka is an award winning Japanese American author. She is well known for her historical fiction that explores Japanese Americans. She studied art at Yale University before taking-up fiction writing at the age of thirty. She won the 2011 National Book Award for "The Buddha in the Attic', as well as the PEN/Faulkner Award for 2012.
