Khaled Hosseini is an Afghan-born American novelist and physician. His first novel The Kite Runner was published to great acclaim in 2003, at which time decided to stop practicing medicine and become a full-time writer. In 2006, Hosseini was named a Goodwill Envoy to UNHCR, the United Nations Refugee Agency. Hosseini lives in northern California with his wife and two children.
