Plagiarism

It has always been important that you reference your assignments and research so that you cannot be accused of plagiarism. Plagiarism is a serious breach of your academic integrity at the College and comes with serious penalties.

Any research taken from any of the following sources must be acknowledged in a bibliography or reference list:

  • Books and textbooks
  • Journals, magazines and newspapers
  • Websites
  • Databases
  • Transcripts of radio and television programs
  • Plays and poems
  • Motion pictures, television and online video
  • Photographs
  • paintings

When you review your work, always ask 'Could someone else clearly see what is my own work, and what work (information, images, words or ideas) are those of other people, and can they see where I got this information from?

TASC penalties for academic dishonesty can range from a reprimand to cancellation of all results for the year. Please read the following documents and become fully aware of your responsibilities in this process.

You are encouraged to speak to your teacher or any of the Library staff if you have any questions about plagiarism, referencing and academic integrity.

All universities in Australia also insist that their students understand the importance of referencing and the need to acknowledge their sources in their work. The following link will take you to the UTAS website and their expectations in this area

You will need to declare that you have understood and followed TASC 's Academic Integrity Guidelines.  You can do this via Schoolbox when you submit your work.

The way to avoid plagiarism is to always provide full bibliographic details of the resources you use by submitting all work with an appropriate reference list or bibliography. Refer to the Library's referencing guidelines for help in this area.

This task is to be completed in person with the Head of Library and Information Services, and signed off on by the Head of Library and Information Services and the Director of Curriculum (Senior School).
