David Malouf is a prize-winning Australian author and poet. His father came from Lebanon in the 1880s and his mother's family came from London just before World War 1. David Malouf was born in Brisbane, and he was educated and taught in Queensland before leaving Australia at the age of 24.
Returning to Australia in 1968 he took up full-time writing in 1978. His work has won many awards, including the 1991 Commonwealth Writers Prize and Miles Franklin Literary award for The Great World . He has also been shortlisted for 1993 Man Booker and the 1996 IMPAC Dublin Literary Award for Remembering Babylon.
David Malouf now lives in Sydney.
