Scott, Kim (1957-)

Kim Scott is an Australian novelist of Noongar ancestry.  He grew up on the south-east coast of Western Australia in Noongar Country. Kim Scott began writing for publications while working a high-school English teacher, and has published poetry, short stories and novels.

His novel That Deadman Dance won nine prestigious literary awards in its year of publication, including the regional Commonwealth Writers' Prize and the Miles Franklin Award.

As well as his literary career, Scott has worked with others for several years to recover and preserve the traditional languages of his ancestral people.  He is Professor of Creative Writing at Curtain University, W.A.
